Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a Relaxation Massage?

Relaxation Massage is the most commonly offered massage technique, utilising a firm pressure on the muscles which also involves a series of long yet gliding strokes. This technique increases blood circulation, easing any muscle tension and improving the muscles’ flexibility. It stimulates the nervous system as well as the skin to soothe the nerves, reducing both physical and emotional stress. A Relaxation Massage is given to help with increasing the flow of oxygen in the blood, releasing toxins from the body’s muscles flushing the uric acids, lactic acids and other type of metabolic wastes out of the body tissues. It has been known to have a strong impact in shortening the recovery time for a muscular strain.

Your Massage Therapist will aim to relax, revive and rejuvenate you at a massage depth that does not cause discomfort.

  • Can I claim any health rebates from my Relaxation Massage?

When receiving relaxation massage from a qualified remedial therapist health fund rebates will still be available.
  • What should I expect during the Relaxation Massage treatment?

You will feel very relaxed and may experience relief from long-term aches and pains as a result of stress, tension or repetitive physical activities.

After an initial treatment, you may also experience increased energy, heightened awareness as well as better productivity and the effects can last for days. We recommend you drink plenty of water for a few days after your massage session as toxins are released from your soft tissue (into your lymphatic and blood systems) during a massage.

  • What are the benefits of a Relaxation Massage?

The benefits of a Relaxation Massage includes:

    • deep relaxation

    • relief from tight muscles

    • nourished tissues through improved blood flow

    • stimulated lymphatic system

    • stress reduction

    • soothed nervous system

    • increased energy

  • Is it normal to feel emotional after a massage?

It is normal that some people may experience an emotional response to massage. Massage can allow us space to notice what is going on in our emotional lives and gives us a break from the daily busy routine in life which some of us may lead.  For some people feelings or emotions can be triggered by a simple act of being touched. Most importantly, try to relax and enjoy the massage experience supported by your Massage Therapist.  Remember your Massage Therapist is a professional, and your personal information and all conversations are confidential and respected.

  • Is Relaxation Massage therapy just for relaxation?

Relaxation Massage is a great way to promote relaxation, however there is so much more to this technique. Relaxation Massage can help manage pain, reduce stress, improve circulation, decrease muscle tension, ease breathing difficulties, lower blood pressure, reduce headaches, improve mobility, promote sleep, manage anxiety & depression and helps improve your overall wellness.

Your Massage Therapist will be able to determine or recommend if they feel you require a different treatment, however it is ultimately up to you which treatment you desire to follow through with.

  • Can I talk during my session?

Of course you are more than welcome to talk during your session. This is your time and your treatment, you can choose to talk if this makes you feel more comfortable or you desire this type of company. However, it is encourage to try and relax, allowing your mind to float free and enter a state of massage bliss. In many instances, people may feel more relaxed in starting off talking, then as the massage progresses, enter a quiet state of relaxation. Some people even fall into a deep sleep whilst undergoing their treatment.

It is very important to speak up immediately if the Massage Therapist should ever do anything which may make you feel uncomfortable. This includes the pressure of the massage, the music as well as the lighting or the temperature of the room. If something is not working for you, please do speak up, this is OK!

  • Do I have to listen to music during my massage session?

It is completely up to you whether you want music playing or not. Naturally there will be music playing, however if you’d prefer there be no music please request this with the Massage Therapist and they will turn the music off for you. There are studies which support that music played under 60 beats-per-minute has a calming, relaxing affect on your body and therefore can enhance your experience.

  • Is it ok if I fall asleep during my Relaxation Massage?

It is quite common for people to fall asleep during a Relaxation Massage. Massage therapists typically take this as a compliment and a sign that they’re providing maximum relaxation to their clients. Enjoy your massage experience and don’t expect yourself to stay awake and alert at all times. Many clients allow their bodies and minds to “reset” in deeply relaxing states.

  • Is this a professional service only?

Yes, at MyoFix our therapists provide a strictly professional only massage service. If the therapist feels that the session has turned sexual for the client, male or female, he/she may stop the session to clarify the client’s intent, and may decide to end the session immediately.
